Setting up your Mullet

Before we start, it’s important to mention where we began.

Why do Safety Bikes have slacked headtube angles, riser handlebars and headset spacers?

To prevent a rider going over the handlebars in steep sections

Other then looking cool, this is why your current Safety Bike is setup that way.

Because Mullet frames have been optimally designed around a smaller rear and larger front wheel, the rider becomes tucked into the frame- As opposed to riding on top of the frame. This enables us to use an optimum head angle and BB height that aren’t capable on a Modern Safety Bike.

Mullet frames have been purposefully built around two different wheel sizes. You CANNOT setup your Mullet with the same size wheels front/rear.

Initial Setup:

Step I. Establish both your Saddle Height and the Saddles’ Fore/Aft position.

  1. Once Saddle Height is set, measure from the ground to the center of the Saddle.
    -Record this #

Step II. Set the highest point of your Handlebar to the # recorded in Step I.

  1. If you find the Handlebars are BELOW your Saddle, use the following methods to raise the Handlebars so it matches the height of your Saddle.
    1. Use a Handlebar that has a 0-35mm Rise
    2. Use a Stem with that has 10-25mm Rise
    3. Use more Headset Spacers
  2. If you find your Handlebars are ABOVE your Saddle, use the following methods to lower the Handlebars so it matches the height of your Saddle.
    1. Use a Handlebar that has Less or No Rise.
    2. Flip your Stem if utilizing a +/- Stem.
    3. Remove Headset Spacers

*For maximum performance and comfort, it is vital for the Handlebars to be no more then 15mm above or below your Set Saddle Height.

Step III. Setting up your Suspension Sag.

  1. All Mullet frames are designed to run a 20-30% Sag Rate.
    1. We recommend following your Suspension Manufactures instructions when setting up our required Sag for the best performance.
